The coalition Government has abolished many of the structures and policies at the Yorkshire and Humber regional level. City regions will play a much bigger part in sustainable development.
This page has been set up to share information about environment policy in the York & North Yorkshire Sub-Region.
York & North Yorkshire is a more rural economy than the three city regions that lie within Yorkshire & the Humber, but also includes the City Of York and the urban areas adjacent to major cities. It covers half the land area of the region, but has the smallest population of the four sub-regions, at 790,000. There are over 340,000 employees in employment.
In local authority terms, the sub-region comprises Craven, Hambleton, Harrogate, Richmondshire, Ryedale, Scarborough, Selby and York, as well as North Yorkshire County Council.
‘New Beginnings’ is YHREF’s response to the dramatic changes in the decision-making landscape being introduced by the new Government. This York & North Yorkshire event was our second workshop examining the structures, the mood and the opportunities for improved sub-regional collaborations on environmental activity. This report also incorporates some observations from the previous workshop in Leeds City Region.
