The coalition Government has abolished many of the structures and policies at the Yorkshire and Humber regional level. City regions will play a much bigger part in sustainable development.
This page has been set up to share information about environment policy in the Sheffield City Region.
The Sheffield City Region is a major economic area in its own right – a population of 1.75 million (the same as Northern Ireland), economic output of around £25bn and a workforce of 710,000 employees.
The City Region is made up of nine local authorities that straddle two government regions: East Midlands and Yorkshire and the Humber. The East Midlands districts comprise Bassetlaw, Bolsover, Chesterfield, Derbyshire Dales and North East Derbyshire; while the Yorkshire and Humber region districts are the four local authority areas in the sub-region of South Yorkshire: Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield. The city region partnership also includes Derbyshire County Council, Nottinghamshire County Council and the Peak District National Park.
‘New Beginnings’ is YHREF’s response to the dramatic changes in the decision-making landscape being introduced by the new Government. This Sheffield City Region event was our third workshop examining the structures, the mood and the opportunities for improved sub-regional collaborations on environmental activity. It was published 22nd November 2010.
