The coalition Government has abolished many of the structures and policies at the Yorkshire and Humber regional level. City regions will play a much bigger part in sustainable development.

The Leeds City Region brings together the eleven local authorities of Barnsley, Bradford, Calderdale, Craven, Harrogate, Kirklees, Leeds, Selby, Wakefield and York, along with North Yorkshire County Council.
The City Region has a £51bn economy that contributes 5% of the total UK economy. It has a population of almost 3 million, a resident workforce of 1.5 million and an employment rate of 75%. Leeds City
The region has significant economic and innovation assets including over 100,000 businesses, 8 higher education institutions producing research of which 36% is world-class, 10% of which is world-leading, and 36,000 graduates each year.
