Posted on behalf of Jenny Poxon:

You will recall that the Regional Planning Body was recently consulted on a proposal by Peel Investments for 750 houses at Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield. Following consultations with Board members the Chair and Deputy agreed the attached response to the proposal, concluding that the Regional Planning Body object to the proposal.

As summarised for you in our previous report, Peel Investments had produced additional information in support of the application. They were keen to discuss their proposal with me and I met with them prior to the Regional Planning Body response being finalised. In the meeting they reiterated their main points, namely that they saw no harm in the proposal as: housing needs to be directly co-located with employment opportunities as the airport expands; RSS is based on evidence that did not take account of the growth of RHADS, is out of date and is being interpreted too restrictively; low levels of housing delivery point to the need for this site to be developed; assessment of need suggests the kind of housing proposed; and that this development will help to fund the Regeneration Route (FARRRS). We had a useful discussion and I was able to put across the strategic concerns about the proposal. I also sought to reassure Peel that a lack of support for more housing at the airport did not reduce the support of regional and local agencies for the airport itself and its important role in helping the regeneration of the area, illustrated by Yorkshire Forward's funding at the site and support for the FARRRs proposals in regional transport priorities.

I have discussed these issues in full with officers at Doncaster and I understand that the mayor is not in support of the proposal.

Peel are clearly wanting to secure permission to build the houses at the Airport and are being proactive in their discussions with any interested parties. They might therefore be in touch with you as a member of the Board. If you wish to discuss this further with me or require any more information, please do not hesitate to contact me.

With kind regards

Jenny Poxon
