Sheffield Is My Planet – a partnership between Sheffield City Council and Sheffield First for Environment – is an innovative public information campaign with a brand new website and a brand new mission: to inspire Sheffielders to make carbon promises which positively impact our city and our planet.
The promises offer a great starting point for people wanting to take simple steps to start tackling climate change. Promises include: to walk and cycle more, to turn down central heating by 1°, to exercise outdoors rather than in the gym, or to buy food in season.
As well as raising awareness of climate change and reducing the city’s carbon footprint, the campaign hopes to help local people save money too.
Groundwork Sheffield has been brought on board to recruit and train a team of volunteer community champions who will learn tips and techniques to inspire greener thinking and living among their friends, family and colleagues, and encourage them to ‘pass it on’.
The community champions will be helping to get thousands of Sheffielders to register their carbon promises on the Sheffield Is My Planet website and start living greener.
Visit www.sheffieldismyplanet.co.uk or text ‘promise’ to 82010 to make your promise. Please forward this on to anyone you feel may be interested in the project.
Do you want to get involved? If you’re interested in becoming a community champion, we’d love to hear from you. Contact Anna Cooper on 0114 263 6420 or email anna.cooper@groundwork.org.uk.
