We are currently consulting on the Environmental Scoping Consultation Document, part of the Strategic Environmental Assessment for the Lower Aire Flood Risk Management Strategy (LAFRMS). We are seeking your comments on it.
The LAFRMS will set a framework for the strategic management of flood risk over the next 100 years in the Lower Aire catchment, which starts at Lemonroyd Weir, downstream of Leeds and ends at the confluence with the River Ouse, near Airmyn. The strategy will identify measures to manage flood risk to people, property and the environment in a sustainable manner.
We are working with organisations, businesses and communities to develop a range of solutions to help deal with flooding issues in this area.
As part of the development of the LAFRMS, we will be undertaking a Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA). This enables us to identify environmental problems and opportunities relevant to the strategy study area and to ensure that they are considered as we develop the options for managing flood risk.
The environmental scoping consultation document is available from:
www.environment-agency.gov.uk/research/library/consultations/36989.aspx
It presents the longer list of options and environmental baseline information on the study area and explains how we intend to carry out the environmental assessment of these options. Throughout the document there are targeted questions, which are all included on the response form, also available below. There is an opportunity for any other comments you feel are relevant.
We will be talking to the local community in advance of the preferred options being determined for the strategy.
Please fill out our response form and return it to us by Friday 12th March 2010.
Either print off the response form and post it back to us at:
